Locum Tenens Nurse Practitioner – Primary Care Jobs in Virginia Beach, VA & Norfolk, VA

As the first locum tenens Nurse Practitioner (NP) in this innovative healthcare program, you will help launch and scale a new care model for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Work closely with nephrologists and dialysis teams across clinics in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake.

Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Job Details

• Location: Virginia Beach, VA (serving clinics in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Great Bridge, Leigh, Midtown, Kempsville, Southern Tide, and Little Creek)

• Employment Type: Temp to Perm (16-week contract, temp-to-perm potential)

• Setting: Outpatient, clinic-based with some fieldwork; primarily in-person

• Start Date: ASAP

• Estimated Weekly Pay: $3,800 – $4,500

• Shifts per Week: 5

• Shift Duration: 8-hour days (7:00am – 5:00pm; no nights, no weekends; on-call service only)

• Hours per Week: 40 (may vary as the program grows)

• Patient Volume: Start with a few patients/day, ramping up to 12–14/day

Nurse Practitioner Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience in primary care, managing chronic comorbid conditions (5 years preferred)

• Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia

• Experience working autonomously: ordering/interpreting labs, managing care plans

• Proven ability to build and maintain long-term patient relationships

• Growth-oriented, entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable in startup healthcare environments

• Leadership interest and readiness to help scale a new clinical care model

• Nephrology or dialysis experience (including as an RN) is a strong plus

• Not suitable for acute care, urgent care, surgical, ICU, or pediatrics backgrounds

Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities

• Deliver direct primary care to CKD or ESKD patients in clinic and field-based settings

• Establish and maintain continuity of care with a consistent patient panel

• Collaborate with nephrologists, dialysis teams, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes

• Manage chronic conditions, order and interpret laboratory tests, and coordinate comprehensive care plans

• Contribute to the development and refinement of clinical workflows and best practices for a new care model

• Demonstrate adaptability and initiative in a dynamic, high-visibility healthcare environment

• Participate in on-call service as needed (no nights or weekends required)

• Support the program’s growth and potential for national expansion
